Sony is Oculus main competitor in the field of virtual reality. Generally it is acknowledged that Oculus achieved better excellence in the area, but who knows how everything will go on further. Anyway, Sony is not the company which can be underestimated.
Andrew House, responsible for PlayStation at Sony, believes that VR technology is the technology of the future, not just an alternative for gamers. “We do now think that we can get to this point of delivering a magical sense of presence – where your brain tricks you into thinking you’re actually in this place. We think there’s something there that could be really, really interesting for a next frontier of game development.”
However, things are definitely not going to be easy enough. Sony has already invested much into the development of Project Morpheus, but it is still unclear whether the product will be mass-distributed. House said “I don’t know, but I think that at the very least it’s going to be another really interesting advance for the PS4 ecosystem and another way to deliver brand new experiences. That’s what we’re all about.”
Whether Sony will succeed in developing Project Morpheus, time will show.
