In March 2014 a second generation of virtual reality headset Oculus Rift entered the market. It costs $350. At the time of receiving the pre-orders the manufacturer did not mention the exact delivery time of the gadget. It was known only, that it will happen in July.
However, the situation with the delivery time of Oculus Rift cleared on the first day of July. Oculus VR reported that first DK2 will find its new owners on July 14.
Despite the strong financial support from the social network Facebook, Oculus can hardly cope with the processing of orders. The company plans to deliver 10,000 Oculus Rift DK2 this month, out of 45,000 orders taken by the company.
Previously Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus, said that during the first 36 hours the office of the company has received about 12.5 thousand orders. Even those, who pre-ordered on the second day after the start of sales, cannot count on getting their virtual reality headsets in the nearest future.
At the time of depletion of components for the first generation of Oculus Rift, the company sold about 50,000 copies of the device. The new version, in turn, has raised 45,000 preorders.
